Black Friday: WalMart, Best Buy, Circuit City All Slash Prices

Category: Business News, US | November 28th, 2008

Today is Black Friday, the day that retailers all over the US try and beat the credit crunch and slash the price of their goods, some as much as 80 percent to entice shoppers. Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City and many more outlets are all taking advantage of Black Friday, although it may sound like something awful, the name stands for retailers moving into the black and making profit rather than being in the red and losing out.

Reports show that the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas counts for around 40 – 50 percent of the US annual retail sales.

Black Friday’s sales figures will give a good indication as to how much the credit crunch has affected consumer confidence in America, with shoppers looking for that extra bargain.

Wal-Mart have already slashed many prices, with some widescreen TV’s slashed by a third, the store are also selling a pair of jeans for $4, really crazy prices. JC Penny the department store chain are also cutting prices by up to 75 percent, shops are also offering special promotions, Toys R Us are offering a $50 gift card if you purchase a iPod Nano.

Even designer shops are promoting Black Friday with Sacs discounting a Marc Jacobs bag from $995 to $248 and Macy’s reducing a pair of diamond earring’s from $700 to 249. If you are in America it would be crazy not to take up on some of these amazing deals.
